About Martinsville, VA
Martinsville is located in the eastern foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Southside Virginia, in Henry County. The city was named for General Joseph Martin and has a rich heritage in textiles, furniture manufacturing, and motorsports. Martinsville is home to the Martinsville Speedway, one of NASCAR's oldest and most iconic tracks, as well as the Smithsonian-affiliated Virginia Museum of Natural History. The nearby Fairy Stone State Park and Philpott Lake offer excellent outdoor recreation. Martinsville's humid climate, with warm summers and moderate rainfall, creates conditions favorable to mold growth — particularly in crawl spaces, basements, and attics common to older homes in the area.
Airborne and surface mold spores can cause allergic and respiratory issues. Some people are more susceptible to mold exposure than others due to underlying medical conditions.
It depends, of course, upon the size of the job and the areas affected. A smaller job of a few square feet can generally be handled without professional assistance (as noted in the US EPA Guide to Mold), so the only expense involved there is the cleaning supplies and PPE (such as rubber gloves and masks). Once you go beyond the smaller jobs, there is a wide range of possible costs based upon work required. If porous components like drywall are contaminated with active growth, then removal and disposal are required. However, situations that involve cleaning generally involve lower costs than ones that require removal of walls, carpeting, etc.
